About How Seniors Learn AI

Helping Older Adults Learn AI With Confidence. Built for seniors, not tech experts.

Our Mission

We exist to help people aged 55+ feel capable, and in control around new technology. Not through hype or shortcuts, but through clear explanations, patient pacing, and respect for a lifetime of wisdom.

Technology should serve people, not confuse them.

Dan Wilson, instructor and creator of How Seniors Learn AI

Meet Dan Wilson

Founder & Lead Instructor

Dan Wilson brings 25 years of experience in software engineering, product development, and technical architecture to his work teaching seniors about AI. He’s worked with companies ranging from early-stage startups to established enterprises, always focusing on making complex systems understandable.

But the work that matters most to him now started with a simple observation: his own parents struggled with technology that was supposedly “easy to use.” Tech guides assumed too much knowledge. Classes moved too fast. Nobody designed for people who didn’t grow up with computers.

So Dan created the program he wishes had existed for them.

A program that:

  • Assumes intelligence, not expertise.
  • Moves at a human pace.
  • Treats mistakes as part of learning, not failures to overcome.

His Approach

Dan teaches AI workshops at senior centers, libraries, independent living communities, and churches across the United States. He’s known for explaining technology in plain English, staying patient when questions repeat (because that’s how learning works), and never making anyone feel “behind.”

He believes older adults bring something irreplaceable to technology: perspective, judgment, and the ability to ask “but why would I want to do that?” Those questions make technology better.

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled.”

– Plutarch (Dan’s favorite quote)

Beyond the Workshops

When he’s not teaching, Dan is usually working on making the curriculum better—testing new examples, simplifying explanations, and listening to feedback from the seniors who use his materials. Every “this part confused me” makes the next version clearer.

Our Approach: Safe, Simple, Human

This is not about replacing people with robots. It's about giving you a helpful assistant you can turn off whenever you want.

📖

Plain English First

Simple words. Step-by-step examples. We explain things the way you'd explain them to a friend over coffee.

🔒

Safety Built In

Constant reminders about scams, privacy, and AI's limits. Clear guidelines about what to share and what to keep private. You learn the red lines while learning the fun stuff.

Real-Life Tasks

We focus on actual problems you need to solve like confusing official letters, doctor visits, travel planning, scam spotting, and fixing things around the house.

🎓

Respect for Experience

Our readers have a lifetime of wisdom. AI is just one more tool to add to that. We're not here to "fix" you because you're not broken. We're here to make technology work for you.

🔄

Repetition Is Expected

Learning comes through repetition so we revisit key ideas in different ways throughout the book and workshops. If something doesn't stick the first time, that's normal.

👥

Community Support

Learning doesn't end when you close the book. Our free Facebook group means you always have somewhere to ask questions, share wins, and get encouragement.

Why This Approach Works

We Start Where You Are

Most tech guides assume you already know the basics. We assume you're intelligent but new to AI. If you can text your grandkids and check Facebook, you have enough skills to start.

We Move at Human Speed

Learning takes time. We don't rush. We repeat important concepts. We expect questions. The book has 387 pages because we'd rather explain something properly than save paper.

We Design for Seniors

Large print. High contrast. Clear headings. Lies flat while you work. We design with aging eyes, hands, and attention spans in mind, as design requirements, not limitations.

We Focus on Independence

The goal is to make you confident enough to explore on your own and build the skills to have an always-available digital helper. We give you the foundation, then encourage you to experiment.

We Build Community

Learning alone is hard. Learning together is easier and more fun. Whether it's our Facebook group, a book club, or a workshop, we create spaces where seniors support each other.
